The "Directory of Military Bases" lists over 700 bases and installations in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. It is the only single source to comprehensively list the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserve, and Joint Service Installations, as well as Department of Defense agencies, military camps and stations, recruiting offices, and command headquarters offices.;The main sections of this directory, lists the bases/installations alphabetically, first by state, then by city and by name. Information in each entry profiles the base's location and size; key contact persons and telephone and Autovon numbers; branch(es) of service; major units; visitor attractions; brief history; personnel and contract expenditures; and services including housing, temporary housing, commissary and exchange, child care facilities, schools, libraries, medical facilities, and recreational opportunities on base or nearby.;The appendix lists the domestic bases/installations that were identified in the report of the Defense Secretary's Commission on Base Realignments and Closure (Public Law 100-526), issued on December 29,1988, and in a news release from the Department of Defense entitled "Defense Secretary Proposed Base Closings on January 29, 1990". Except where noted, all those bases are found in the directory.;There are three indexes in the directory: an alphabetical listing of all bases by the official base-name; a branch of service index, listing the bases by state; and an index of states with the bases located in them by branch of service.
