Publisher's Synopsis
In this book, leading experts in their field describe the enzymology and molecular biology of dipeptidyl peptidase IV/CD26 and its functions in metabolism and immune responses. CD26 is identical to the proteolytic enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV expressed in a variety of different tissues including epithelia and lymphocytes. CD26 binds and transports adenosine desaminase selectively in different tissues. It is also involved in T cell activation, providing stimulatory and co-stimulatory signals. It is a receptor for collagen and may be a marker for malignancy. Recent progress from a number of laboratories has shown that CD26/dipeptidyl peptidase IV plays a pivotal role in the response of T lymphocytes and may be involved in the pathogenesis of AIDS.
