This publication is made up of the works presented at the "VII International Symposium on Digestive Physiology in Pigs" which was held in Saint-Malo, France, in May 1997. The text can be used as a model for biomedical research or pig nutrition. The Symposium was organized in plenary sessions, workshops and oral vs. poster communications. It included 16 main lectures, 63 oral communications, and 45 posters. Some topics of the Symposium were: pig as an animal model; relationship between enteric nervous system and gut immunology; age-related adaptions of the digestive tract; and inter-organs nutrient fluxes. The topics for workshops were: in vivo vs. in vitro digestibility, and growth-promoting substances.
