Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Digest of Comments on the Pharmacopoeia of the United States of America (Eighth Decennial Revision) And the National Formulary (Third Edition) For the Calendar Year Ending December 31, 1908
The pharmacopoeial literature for the year 1908 is particularly noteworthy for contributions that should serve to arouse a wide Spread demand for international uniformity, not only in the strength of official medicaments, but also in nomenclature and the require ments made in connection with chemical tests to establish the identity and purity of official articles.
With the progress of pharmacopoeial work the importance of greater uniformity in nomenclature becomes more and more evident, and the need for some international agreement in regard to Latin titles would appear to be highly desirable. The rapidity with which medical literature travels and the speed with which new discoveries become general property should serve to suggest the desirability of some concerted attempt, in the near future, to correct existing abuses in connection with the nomenclature of official drugs and prepa rations.
