Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Diffraction of Pulses by a Circular Cylinder
The pressure field behind the front of a sound pulse can be discussed quite easily if it is assumed that it is a regular function of the time elapsed since the arrival of the pulse. The front itself is propagated according to the laws of geometrical optics; the square of the pressure jump at the front obeys the intensity law of geometrical optics finally, the derivatives of the pressure with respect to time at the front can be calculated recursively, so that the pressure can be expanded in an ascending series of powers of the time counted from the arrival of the front.
