Dante's Kunstlehre sondert man am besten in zwei Theile; dem ersten Theile gehoren die Andeutungen an, welche auf die Metaphysik des Schonen zielen; dem zweiten und weitaus wichtigeren Theil sind die Bemer kungen zuzuweisen, welche in den Erfahrungen der eige nen Kunstpraxis wmzeln. In dem ersten Theil ist Dante wesentlich von Thomas von Aquin abhangig, den er als seinen Lehrer feiert, in dem zweiten kommen die in stinctiven Forderungen der Zeit zu Worte, deren Geist in ihm lebte und sein kunstlerisches Schaffen bestimmte.
