Publisher's Synopsis
This dictionary attempts to explain terms used in marine and offshore engineering, naval architecture, shipbuilding, shipping and ship operation and related areas such as electricity, electronics, control and computing. In many cases illustrations are included to aid explanations.;The text is intended to replace the "Dictionary of Marine Engineering and Nautical Terms" written by G.O.Watson. While some of the present material has been drawn from this source, the emphasis is now very much upon marine technology with only a few nautical terms included.;D.A.Taylor has attempted to fulfil the functions of this earlier volume by not only providing a technical dictionary which is a source of information on words and expressions, but one which by suitable grouping and the use of cross references enables the user to become familiar with terms associated with the marine industry.;An appendix is included which contains a list of marine related abbreviations and also a summary of the SI system of units with some conversion factors.;The work should be useful to anyone with an interest in the technical or commercial aspects of ships and offshore floating structures.
