Multe sensuri conotative sunt reprezentate de vocative si imperative. Interjectiile sunt parti de vorbire care nu denumesc, si deci nu au sensuri denotative, ci doar sensuri afective, care sugereaza stari sufletesti si volitive. Onomatopeele sunt ''cuvinte-motivate'', care prin elementele lor sonore imita zgomote din natura. Acestea sunt elemente lingvistice primare, anterioare constructiei Turnului Babel, 'caci pâna atunci to?i vorbeau o singura limba'6 The Lord said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."
