Gerald Smith had a wonderful life. He was successful, and widely popular. Every moment was the best of his life. He had surpassed his childhood dreams, and was working on the few disappointments. His illness was unexpected. Death found him unprepared when it came. This is his story from that moment. This is the same as "The day I died: An extract from Diary of a ghost" which extracted the two story lines in 2018 and separated them into Part one and Part two. In this the 2006 rewrite, the two storylines are mingled.
