It had been my intention to continue this record through succeeding Parliaments; but circumstances have arisen which preclude the carrying out of that plan, and The Diary of Two Parliaments will remain a fragment in strict conformity with its title. I am fully sensible of the good fortune which has attended me in having two such momentous and distinctive those that will, through all history, be associated with the names of Mr. Disraeli and Mr. Gladstone.
