Set in Western Washington, the novel opens with fisherman and father Austin Stalwert struggling to put his life back together for his daughter Maddie after the sudden death of his best friend Jac and beloved wife Mari. Just as they begin to crawl out of that darkness, the horrors of 2020 ascend upon them, and soon the world becomes inundated with frightening entities that spread slow and deliberate like an infecting plague.
Engulfed by the growing chaos, Austin and Maddie are torn from their comfortable lives with nothing more than a few friends, each other, and Mari's mysterious lockbox. The contents of which will change their realities forever and thrust Austin into a destiny he can no longer deny.
So armed with this new knowledge, he must descend into occupied territory or else a future for his daughter, the world, and beyond, will be lost forever.
