The original object in taking up the study of anthraquinone sulfonic acids was to obtain derivatives which could be used for their ready separa tion and identification. This object was only partially attained but the reaction tried proved interesting and the products obtained appeared worthy of study, so the investigation was shifted from its original purpose and extended in other directions.
