The Herold formula, last used in in 1824, sought to defuse the dramatic death of the ruler through the fact that the crown, and thus the power, was seamlessly moved from the late monarch to the new one determined to be the successor. This seamlessness could barely hold true during the 20th Century. The age of extremes was marked by various political disruptions and upheavals. The death of the powerful, in particular the dictators of this century, mostly brings about a political power rift without rival: The dictator is dead, what now? - So goes the modern variant of the French formula. Jahrhunderts nicht mehr setzen. Die 1824 zum letzten Mal verwendete Heroldsformel suchte die Dramatik des Herrschertodes dadurch zu entscharfen, dass sie die Krone und damit die Macht nahtlos vom verstorbenen Monarchen auf seinen durch die Erbfolge bestimmten Nachfolger ubergehen liess.
