Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Defence of the Rev. Rowland Williams, D.D: In the Arches' Court of Canterbury
The speech contained in this volume is published inst as it was delivered, with the exception of corrections in lan guage and style. One or two passages have been condensed and re-arranged. The four parts into which the speech is divided do not correspond with the days on which it was delivered. Part of the third part was delivered on the second day, and the remainder and the whole of the fourth part on the third day.
Of the numerous quotations in the second part from the writings of eminent divines on the subject of Inspiration, fifteen will be found in a pamphlet published by Dr. Samuel Davidson in his edition of the second volume of Home's Introduction to the Scriptures seven of them I borrowed from Dr. Davidson's pamphlet; the others I had collected before I met with it. I have verified all of them, and can testify, not merely to their accuracy, but to the fact that they fairly represent the views bf the authors quoted.
In most cases I have given in the footnotes references to the edition as well as to the page of the authors referred to. I subjoin a list of the editions of a few authors whom I had frequent occasion to quote, and with whose works I did not take this course.
