Publisher's Synopsis

This book deals with a bus operator in the heart of the South Yorkshire coalfield. Dearneways was founded in 1949 when father and son Percy and Maurice Phillipson bought a 1938 Albion to use on private hires. NCB contract work followed, and then day-trip business. In 1956 the firm was granted a licence for excursions and tour work, and in 1964 began operating a stage route from Thurnscoe to Sheffield. The book is in chronological order and packed with photos of the developing Dearneways fleet. These are all located and identified in the picture captions, which tell the Dearneways story through to "the end" in 1981.
