Publisher's Synopsis

This book offers two models for providing itinerant consultative services to deaf and hard of hearing school children in programs that are very large and/or spread over a wide geographical area, grades preschool through college. Dr Sutherland discusses and illustrates first, a direct service resource program, second, an indirect consultation model to serve students and teachers who otherwise may find these services unavailable. Supplemental materials Sutherland herself used over her long career designed by Audiologists Jerry Northern and Karen Anderson are set up to show how hearing loss is manifested in audiograms and how to interpret and understand the meaning of audiological profiles through illustration with these materials. Teachers and others who want to better understand the plight and circumstances of children with hearing losses, especially in school, will find this to be quite a complete reference for understanding how to optimize services to children with hearing loss who may arrive in their programs. It also offers tools for teachers to use to customize each child's situation.
