Excerpt from Days Forever Flown
At the repeated request of many friends, these leaves from my Journal of 1891 are given, with no additions or alterations, and few eliminations; and although of little interest to others, and unworthy to be read, as they were written solely for the refreshing of our memories as years passed on, they are offered to those who knew and loved my husband, in the hope that a glimpse of the last and happiest months of his young life may be of interest to them. Perhaps, - wandering in the same direction at some future time, it may be a pleasure to know what paths he chose, what scenes of peculiar interest attracted him, and what unusual sensations and impressions were his.
As the writing of this journal was at his instigation, and was stimulated and sustained by his earnest entreaties and watchful care, that no day should be without a chronicle; and as he always sat near during the hurried times of writing, it seems as if his Spirit and sentiments so pervade these pages, that they must have been unwittingly written for just such a purpose, as a "Memorial of Sunshine," to give the brightness from those happy months to those who loved him.
