Aus dem deutschen Text des Buches geht hervor, dass Mechthild mit eigner Hand die einzelnen Stücke geschrieben und dass sie diese ohne sachliche Ordnung, sowie sie in der Zeit nacheinander entstanden waren, zusammengeschrieben hat. Buch IV, ] sagt sie: In ihrem 12. Jahre sei sie zu erst vom Geiste gegrüsst werden, seitdem seien 31 Jahre, und seit sie von der Welt Urlaub genommen, (1. H. Seit sie als Begins in Magdeburg lebt, 20 Jahre verfiossen. Sie ist also im 23. Jahre Begins geworden. Etwa dreissig Jahre später, also im 53. Jahre tritt sie ins Kloster nach VI, 4. Im Kloster starb sie nach 12 Jahren, wie Heinrich von Halle sagt: also in ihrem 65. Jahre.
