Publisher's Synopsis
"My father and I boarded a plane in Manila to go to Vancouver. My father's dear friend, Tito Carly, was well connected in Manila and he made some phone calls so that by the time we were about to board the plane, we were greeted by some airport officials and were given business class tickets in exchange for our economy ones. I saw my dad completely enjoying the bigger seat and the alcoholic beverage offerings. I, on the other hand, had not been on many flights at that point and was too apprehensive about my immediate future to truly enjoy the upgrade. My mind was full. Would I make it on my own? My father started talking about his hopes for my future. He said that after going to Pearson College, maybe I could apply for another scholarship to attend university in the United States. I felt anxious listening to my dad's hopes for me. I did not know what was in store for me at Pearson College. Was I good enough to get another scholarship after Pearson? Would my future meet our expectations? There were too many unknowns."
