Fred saw Margaret for the first time in the queue for the Dean at the University College, Leicester. The year was 1947. He was making a fresh start. His mother had sent him to England, at the age of ten, to escape the Nazis. Before 1939, Fred had lived happily with his mother and two sisters in Northern Moravia. Once in England, he soon adapted to a life far from normal. In meeting Margaret Fred was, at last, encouraged to fulfil his potential and was able, in spite of setbacks to his health, to contribute to the life they made together.
