Publisher's Synopsis
This book documents the current state of knowledge concerning cytokines in the pathogenesis of the spectrum of human autoimmune diseases. Where appropriate, animal models of autoimmune diseases are included for comparison. This field has progressed so rapidly that it can no longer be mastered by a single group, hence this multi-authored compendium. Cytokines are now widely acknowledged to be important targets for disease intervention, as demonstrated by the success of anti-TNFa antibody therapy in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
