Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Current Literature
Of course, the oration in itself was worth little, but considered from the standpoint of the parents and friends and of William himself it was of great value. It was a sort of summing up of his college life. It usually represented his ideals and aspira tions and gave expression to life as he understood it. His parents saw in it not the trite phrases and vague ideas which might have impressed the stranger. To them it meant the serious results of the four years' training which they had given their son, frequently at no little sacrifice to themselves. They rejoiced in the high ideals which it showed the young man had in starting out in real life. It was tangible evidence that their striving for him had not been in vain Now, they hear instead of the college boy's oration, the carefully studied effort of a man of experience and mature ideas. Intrinsically it is much more valuable than the other. But was the change really worth while?
