Excerpt from Cumulative Index to a Selected List of Periodicals, Vol. 1: Authors, Subjects, Titles, Reviews, Portraits, 1896
Continued articles and stories beginning previous to, and appearing in 1896 maga zines, have been given complete entries in every instance; those beginning but not end ing in 1896 are marked continued and the final paging omitted; the complete entry for these will appear in the 1897 volume; signed poems are entered under authors only, anonymous poems under title.
In order to make the year's work correspond to the calendar year, the periodicals chosen were indexed from January to May, and this material, together with that already published from June to December, compose the annual volume.
An effort has been made to bring the subscription price within the reach of all; it is intended to meet the actual expenses only, and if the support should prove sufficiently generous to warrant it, improvements will be made as they become possible.
