Publisher's Synopsis
The Critical Manufacturing Sector is crucial to the economic continuity and prosperity of the United States. The U.S. manufacturing industry contributes greatly to the gross domestic product and employs roughly one million members of the Nation's workforce. While the contributions of the sector to the Nation are immense, they do not come without risk; the economic and strategic value of the industry may make it an attractive target for terrorists. Additionally, the economic and strategic value of the industry and existing interdependencies with other sectors may result in significant consequences in the event of a natural disaster or other incident that affects the Critical Manufacturing Sector. To help manage this risk, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and other Critical Manufacturing Sector partners have developed the Critical Manufacturing Sector- Specific Plan (SSP).
