Publisher's Synopsis
Britain's cities are facing increasing problems of economic decline and social distress. This volume of essays reports on research which was specially commissioned to examine important aspects of urban economic change and adjustment policies which have been developed to respond to it. It provides recent, systematic data on long-term trends in urban economic and social conditions and local development policies, capabilities, and constraints, including innovative local economic policies. It also examines the impacts of local finance on the economies of cities and the need for more integrated and comprehensive policies.
