Publisher's Synopsis
For many years Crickhowell has welcomed visitors. This book focuses on the experiences of distinguished travellers in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Many had made long journeys to view the outstanding mountain scenery, engage in outdoor pursuits including walking, hunting and fishing, and study the local geology, archaeology and natural history. A significant number painted landscapes and views of the town, whilst others wrote descriptive accounts of their travels. Several had stayed at local hotels; others had been accommodated by longstanding friends. The text is well-illustrated with images from public and private collections, many of which have not been previously published.
