Publisher's Synopsis
I just wanted to be normal. I didn't grow up like normal people, like everyone else. I grew up in a cult. I and the other women in our community were treated like brood mares. We were impregnated constantly . . . or, the other women were. I apparently couldn't get pregnant so I wasn't nearly as important as the other women.
Not that any of us were actually important. We cooked, we cleaned and we laid on our backs and then, if we were made properly, we birthed healthy babies to fill Father's army. But then, one fateful night, as I was sneaking out of Father's house, I heard something incredible. The government was right outside the compound and they wanted to shut Father down. Shit, how pathetic was I, falling for a girl I saved during a call? That was rookie shit right there. But this woman, she wasn't like any other woman I'd ever met in my life. She was beautiful, sure, but she was also just different. She didn't dress to show off, she didn't simper or fish for compliments. She wasn't exactly confident, but she wasn't shy, either. It was clear she hadn't lived like everyone else. She was incredible and I wanted to know more about her. I just hoped I didn't scare her away in the process.
