Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Court Leet Records, Vol. 1: Part II., A. D. 1578-1602
Another curiosity is that the Mayor before whom the Court was nominally being held was in 1579 absent, while in 1590 he had actually been dead for four months.
Numerous entries convey the impression that the town was passing through a period of great adversity during this period the quays were decayed, the walls and towers in ruins, the streets unpaved.
