Publisher's Synopsis
This book focuses on the main physical phenomena and processes that control the behavior of geo-materials subjected to thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical (THMC) actions. The equations are presented for the general case of non-isothermal multiphase flow and transport problems in deformable porous media.
The book also provides an introduction to the numerical approximation of the mathematical formulation, and to coupled THMC analysis, with applications to a range of issues. Multiphysics problems of practical interest in the broad fields of geomechanics, especially geo-energy and geo-environmental topics such as geothermal systems, waste containment and carbon sequestration, are introduced and analyzed. It is accessible to junior graduate and advanced undergraduate students as well as to a range of geo-professionals.
