Publisher's Synopsis

The county of Kent was unique in the Second World War by providing two squadrons for the Royal Air Force. No. 500 (County of Kent) Auxiliary Squadron was initially composed of just weekend airmen and was a bomber squadron formed at RAF Manston in 1930. No. 131 (County of Kent) Fighter Squadron was formed in wartime and was a so-called 'Gift of War' because its twelve Spitfires were funded by donations to the Spitfire Fund made by the people of Kent who had experienced the Battle of Britain in the skies above them during 1940. Through informative captions and historic photographs, the author pays homage to the contribution to victory made by these two squadrons.
