Publisher's Synopsis

This text deals with the law and practice relating to coroners in Northern Ireland, with particular reference to the Coroners Act (NI) 1959, as amended, and related Rules.;Since the principal legislation has been extensively amended over the years, the authors also provide a complete and up-to-date text of both the 1959 Act and the Coroners (Practice and Procedure) Rules (NI) 1963.;Many of these provisions are also to be found in England and Wales, where they have been subject to extensive judicial review in recent years, and the authors deal in detail with the relevant reported and unreported cases from that jurisdiction.;Appropriate reference is also made to corresponding provisions of the Coroners Act 1962 in the Republic of Ireland, and to the case law relating to such legislation, with particular reference to the Supreme Court decision in "Farrell (Dublin City Coroner) v Attorney General [1998] 1 ILRM 364".;A separate chapter is devoted to an analysis of the new Treasure Act 1996, which has replaced the old law relating to treasure trove.
