The Historical Society of Montana has passed the thirty eighth milestone of its existence. It has endeavored to per form its mission and fulfill the trust assumed, as set forth in the act of incorporation, which says its object shall be to collect and arrange facts in regard to the early history of the Territory of Montana, the discovery of its mines, 1nc1 dents of the fur trade, etc.
It has endeavored to chronicle passing events with impar tial pen, knowing neither political party nor church creed having no enemies to fear or punish, and no friends to favor, according the humblest citizen an equal place with the most distinguished.
