Publisher's Synopsis
This book is based on the proceedings of a symposium held in Mexico in March 1993 on 'Contraceptive Research and Development for the Year 2000 and Beyond'. It reviews the progress made in the field of contraceptive research during the past decades, and emphasizes the need for a sustained effort if the requirements of all potential consumers of contraceptives are to be met and if all the peoples of the world are to achieve sound reproductive health. The book identifies areas that need further research and action, especially the need to include the views of women into research and development activities. Furthermore, with the prevalence of STDs, particularly HIV/AIDS, the needs of couples with regard to protection against unwanted pregnancy and STDs are changing.
