Publisher's Synopsis
An unexpected phone call in the middle of the night awakens Detective Chief Inspector Kathryn O'Hara. She learns that Superintendent Roger Anderson is dead. He was her mentor, her friend. Furthermore, her colleague, Detective Constable Frank Phillips is the only suspect. It appears to be a cut and dry case. However, as Kathryn has learnt throughout her career, nothing is as it first appears. Along with Detective Constables Harry Goldfield and Eleanor Edwards, Kathryn must leave no stone upturned in her investigation. She must overcome her grief and maintain her objectivity. At each stage of her work, Kathryn finds herself questioning whether she is too close to the crime, too emotionally invested to maintain her impartiality. She begins to wonder whether Frank is really as innocent as she believes or whether she is intentionally averting her gaze from the truth. Kathryn has never before been in harm's way in her work as a Detective. However, prior to Roger's death, she had also never before been required to investigate a colleague's murder. As she scrutinizes all the evidence to achieve her goal of uncovering the truth, Kathryn realizes that she too may be in imminent danger. Roger's killer is not yet finished with their work...
