Publisher's Synopsis
Representing a collective effort by ten social scientists with long experience in the Horn of Africa and portraying the marginalization and deprivation of the pastoralist population in the region, this book includes case studies from the Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya as well as a case study from Mali, included for purposes of comparison with another region of Africa. The central issue addressed by the contributors is the political consequence of the decline of pastoralism in a region ravaged by conflict.
