Publisher's Synopsis

This text uses the same approach as Professor York's Building Basic Competencies in Social Work Research: An Experiential Approach, to help students learn social work research using hands-on exercises. This text is intended for the second or intermediate to upper-level courses in social work research. After students have mastered the basics of social work research (by using Building Basic Competencies), this text takes them further into actually conducting social work research. The text helps students to practice and develop their research skills using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The exercises and examples that are built into the text can be assigned for homework. These assignments make the research come alive for students, and the interactive learning process motivates students to learn more than the usual theory-based research text. The author has used this learning system with his students, and the students have commented on its superiority to standard texts. There is also an Instructor's Manual and Test Bank to assist the instructor in evaluating students' work.
