Publisher's Synopsis
The contributors in this volume debate on various questions on the nature of the divine and wonder if theistic concepts of the ultimate can be reconciled with Eastern religions. The various viewpoints show a differing definition of the ultimate and it is seen if these can be reconciled.;The first three sections show religious perspectives from a Chinese perspective, from classical Christian theism and Christian feminist theology. The remainder of the book takes up visions of the ultimate in Hinduism and Buddism and concludes with John Hick's pluralistic position. Adavaita Vedanta Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism are discussed, with John Hick seeking an underlying concept of the ultimate from the differing religious backgrounds and perspectives.
