This proceedings consists of papers presented at the First Congress on Computing in Civil Engineering, sponsored by the technical Council on Computer Practices of the American Society of Civil Engineers held in conjunction with A/E/C Systems on June 20-22, 1994 in Washington, D.C. The Congress is the primary ASCE-wide gathering regarding computer issues. The proceedings covers nine major areas of concern: computing in construction; databases; expert systems and artificial intelligence; computers in civil engineering education; environmental engineering; geotechnical engineering; geographic information systems; computers in structures; and computers in transportation. Within these broad topics, the book contains papers on subjects, such as: application of neural networks in construction and in transportation; decision support systems; machine learning; product modeling; and computer application to bridges. In addition, papers dealing with the management of uncertainty in project planning, the application of computational fluid dynamic in wind engineering, and the use of pen computing are included in the proceedings.
