Publisher's Synopsis

Frames are combinations of structural components that make up buildings. They can be solid or trussed. Determining the mechanical stress at a specific point in a trussed frame is always a very laborious problem. This research project aims to determine stresses due to static loading in a metal trussed frame. To this end, a finite element simulation, the fabrication of a 1:10 scale reduced model and the experimental testing of a metal lattice gantry were carried out. The lattice gantry model adopted for this research was the tower crane, better known in the construction industry as a crane. The crane is widely used in all branches of construction: residential, commercial, industrial, naval and others that require transportation at height or over large volumes and distances. The reduced model of the lattice gantry was manufactured using structural steel and concrete counterweights. ANSYS software, which uses the finite element method, was used for its computer simulation. The stresses obtained in the finite element simulation were associated and compared with the experimental extensometry measurements, thus...
