This book is primarily concerned with computer techniques for the extraction of information from remotely-sensed image data. Particular topics are covered within the general field of the processing of remotely-sensed data in the form of digital images, and their application to a range of problems drawn from the earth and environmental sciences.;The introductory chapters deal with physical principles and the sources and nature of remotely-sensed image data. Satellite platforms currently or recently in use, as well as those proposed for the near future, are described, followed by the characteristics of digital computers as they relate to the processing of remotely-sensed image data.
