Publisher's Synopsis

This book is an updated version of "Fundamentals of Computer Logic" by David Hutchison (Ellis Horwood, 1981). The material in the earlier text has been revised in the light of developments in the subject over the last five years, and two new chapters have been added: Chapter Five on VLSI circuit design and Chapter Eight on new computer architectures. The approach used in the original text has been preserved.;Material is introduced in a bottom-up way, starting with a description of the basic building blocks of logic circuits and proceeding in a series of layers to build a picture of how computers are designed and constructed. Although the material is principally concerned with computer hardware, some attention is paid to the mutual dependence of hardware and software requirements in computer design.
