Community medicine is a very rapidly advancing discipline in South East Asia, and the preventive, organizational and sociological aspects of health care are increasingly seen as subjects of major significance in the many hundreds of medical schools in this part of the world.;This textbook has been written by a group of fifty contributors from ten different countries in South East Asia, most of whom are university teachers, nationals of countries in that region, and recognized authorities in their respective fields. It is a textbook for medical students which is directly applicable to their own environment and circumstances. The language is clear and concise, considerable emphasis is given to the role of social sciences, the involvement of the community in the health care system, and epidemiological principles. Examples and data used in the text are derived directly from experiences in South East Asia.
