Excerpt from Commemoration of the Society's 21st Anniversary, May 10th, 1890
On Saturday, May roth, 1890, the co-operative Printing Society had a festive gathering in Manchester, in celebration of the society's coming of age. The place of meeting was the Wholesale Society's Hall, Balloon Street, which was adorned with ?owers and plants. There was a full attendance, and a joyous evening was spent, with the aid of a substantial, an abundant, and a well-served tea, music, recitations, and congratulatory speeches. Mr. S. L. Chadwick (president of the society) occupied the chair, and performed his duties in a cheery and hearty manner. The chairman was supported by Mr. Geo. Howell, m.p Mr. H. R. Slatter, j.p. (the first president of the society), Mr. E. V. Neale, Mr. 1. T. W. Mitchell, Mr. Ben Brierley, Mr. W. Strawn, and Mr. 1. Bradley (london), Mr. Tweedale, Mr. Hayes, Mr. O. Lees, and other officers of the society. Mr. W. Johnson (secretary) was kept away by illness.
