The authors grew up in the very special little town of Boston, Georgia, during the 1940s and 1950s. Over the ensuing years, these three friends exchanged many emails containing stories and exaggerations about their experiences while growing up. One day Jerry said, "Al and Keith, we should record these notes and write a book. Margaret Mead wrote the classic novel, 'Coming of Age in Samoa'. Well, Hell! We could write a classic novel of the South, 'Coming of Age in Boston, Georgia'!" At Jerry Alderman's suggestion, the three co-authors recorded their notes using Margaret Mead and Bailey White as their main inspirations.
