Publisher's Synopsis
Climate change is the talk of the day and is being experienced at a global level by all walks of life. Its effect on agriculture is very important as it not only reduces the soil and crop productivity but also reduces the income of the farmers. Mitigation and adaptation are two ways to combat climate change. Among the different approaches, plasticulture, i.e. the use of plastics in agriculture is one of the major approaches to address the issues of climate change.
Day by day, the number of scientists engaged in plasticulture research in the country is increasing. Plasticulture research engulfs many aspects, including the use of plastics in water management. Though well-planned research and development activities are in progress for over five decades in this country, the findings and technologies developed pertaining to plasticulture are available in a scattered manner.
In this volume of the book an attempt is made to compile as many Indian technologies developed as possible, pertaining to use of plasticulture in the area of water resources management, so that the researchers, planners, policymakers and other stakeholders can plan their future approaches to make Indian agriculture more viable, sustainable, and techno economically feasible.
