The forty years occurring from A. D. 1490 to A. D. 1530 included five events of a most remarkable character, The Expulsion of the [?oors from Spain, - the Discovery of Ame rica by Columbus, -the Conquest of Mexico by Cortes, - the Conquest of Peru by Pizur ro, - and the Reformation by M artin Luther. The first four are intimately connected with the Spanish monarchy; the last, only general ly so. On the condition of Spain, the four produced the most important changes. Why they produced not greater, is a question, the investigation of which will suggest instructive considerations to the student of history, Who reads, not for mere amusement, but that he may the better understand the principles of the ad ministration of Divine Providence.
