Publisher's Synopsis
This new edition is in two main parts. The main text is essentially descriptive, providing an account of the typical duties and function of the clerk of works and guidance about selecting and appointing one. For example, architects are often asked to recommend a clerk of works and to handle the process of selection/appointment, while clients will want to know what the need for a clerk of works in their project and the cost. The second section consists of guidance and practice-related materials of various kinds, with the intention of increasing the knowledge-base of clerks of works and of those who employ and direct them. There is a clause-by-clause guide to JCT 80 from the perspective of the clerk of works, followed by a review of the clerk-of-works position under building contracts generally. Recommended approaches and techniques for effective reporting and the compiling and organization of site records are included, together with a co-ordinated set of published and model forms designed for use by clerks of works, each form accompanied by notes on its use and completion. This new edition is intended to be of use not only for clerks of works, but also for any involved in the building process.
