Cinq Mars is a historical novel by the French author Alfred de Vigny. The novel is set in seventeenth-century France and tells the story of Henri Coiffier de Ruzé, Marquis of Cinq-Mars, a favourite of King Louis XIII who falls from grace and is executed for treason. The novel is a gripping depiction of political intrigue, love, and betrayal, and is considered one of the greatest works of French literature of the nineteenth century.
