Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Christ's Kingdom and Church in the Nineteenth Century
Church World. Leaving over for a time the consideration of the last named, What, we may ask, are the data furnished by the New Testament for enabling us to discriminate between these terms? What is the meaning, and what the precise relation to each other, of the things or ideas signified by the terms in question Let the familiar facts be rapidly summarised once more. Christ's favourite expression is Kingdom. In the Gospels it occurs some hundred and twelve times, and for the most part as Christ's own word. Sometimes He speaks simply of My Kingdom, but more frequently we have the fuller 'expression, Kingdom of God or Kingdom of Heaven. The latter form is peculiar to Matthew.
