The Breitkopf & Härtel Choir Library for Mixed Choir - Sacred Repertoire begins, like the liturgical year, with Advent, followed by Christmas. Both sections include arrangements of well-known Advent and Christmas carols as well as more extensive works, among them settings of the Magnificat and both Advent and Christmas motets. The third section combines New Year and Epiphany, while the fourth section is dedicated to Lent up until Palm Sunday. This time is also referred to as Passiontide in the Protestant Church; the Catholic form was chosen here in differentiation to the Passion music of the following volume. The represented composers range from the Renaissance to the 20th century - from Palestrina, Telemann and Bach via Mendelssohn, Brahms and Reger to Johann Nepomuk David and Kurt Thomas.
